Self
Waterpatches is a passion-project series of digital paintings built around how music looks in my head. Every listener pictures a song differently, so each piece is my own rendition of a song, based on the one line or frame in a song or music video that completely won me over. Each started as a pencil sketch on paper before moving to Photoshop to be painted over.

Challenge
A song doesn't come with a picture, and the image it creates is different for every listener. The challenge was to take one fleeting moment, a single lyric or a single frame, and turn it into a still artwork that carries the feeling of the whole song.
Strategy
I built each piece around a single moment rather than trying to illustrate the whole track. Starting with pencil on paper kept the ideas loose and personal, and moving the sketches into Photoshop let me paint over them digitally and develop the mood and colour.
Outcome
A cohesive series that became the project that solidified my goal of creating artwork for my favourite bands. The work received a lot of praise from the original artists of the songs, which was the best validation I could have asked for.
